Helping Kids, Teens & Families Feel Heard, Understood, and Supported

Is Your Child Struggling? You're Not Alone.

As a parent, noticing your child feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or withdrawn can be heartbreaking. Whether your child is having big emotions, facing life changes, or acting out in ways you don’t fully understand — you just want to help. Many parents come to us feeling unsure but hopeful, wanting to make sure their child gets the support they need.

At Reclaim & Rise Counselling, we specialize in child and youth counselling for kids and teens in Stratford, Ontario and across the province through virtual therapy. We create a safe space where your child or teen can express themselves, learn new skills, and begin to heal — using age-appropriate tools like play therapy, talk therapy, and cognitive approaches tailored to their stage of development.

Why Child & Youth Therapy Works

Children and teens don’t always have the words to describe what they’re feeling — but their emotions still need a place to go. Therapy offers a safe and supportive space where kids can process emotions, work through challenges, and learn how to cope effectively.

Through counselling, children and teens can:

  • Express emotions safely without fear of judgment

  • Build self-confidence, resilience, and emotional awareness

  • Learn to regulate big emotions like anxiety, anger, and overwhelm

  • Navigate family, school, and social challenges more effectively

  • Heal from loss, trauma, or difficult life events

  • Strengthen communication and connection within the family

If you're reading this and wondering if your child might need support—you’re already doing something right. Reaching out doesn't mean you've failed; it means you care deeply. And that care is the most powerful starting point of all.

Common Reasons Parents Seek Therapy for Their Child

You don’t need to wait until things feel “serious” to reach out. Many families come to us when their child or teen is:

  • Feeling anxious, worried, or overwhelmed

  • Showing frequent meltdowns, tantrums, or emotional outbursts

  • Struggling with anger, frustration, or emotional regulation

  • Displaying low self-esteem or confidence issues

  • Having difficulty with friendships or peer relationships

  • Dealing with changes such as divorce, grief, or family transitions

  • Avoiding school, struggling academically, or feeling socially isolated

  • Processing a traumatic or distressing event

  • Navigating ADHD, sensory processing challenges, or neurodivergence

  • Simply not seeming like “themselves” lately

It’s okay if you’re not sure what’s going on—what matters is that you’ve noticed something. Trusting your instincts and seeking support is a powerful act of care. We’re here to help you figure out the next right step for your child, together.

Please note: In Ontario, Registered Social Workers cannot provide a formal mental health diagnosis. If a diagnosis is something you’re hoping to explore, we recommend speaking with your family doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions About Child & Youth Counselling

How do I know if my child needs counselling?

If you are concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour, or how they are adjusting to life’s challenges, therapy can help. Early support often leads to lasting change, but it’s never too late to start.

What is play therapy?

Play therapy uses toys, art, creativity, and imagination to help children express emotions they might not have words for. It allows them to process feelings safely while learning new coping tools — all while being met with understanding and care.

Will I be involved as a parent?

Yes! We value your role as a caregiver and will work alongside you. You will receive insights, parenting support, and guidance on how to best support your child outside of therapy.

Do you work with neurodivergent children?

Yes. We regularly work with children who are navigating ADHD, sensory sensitivities, and other forms of neurodivergence. We adapt therapy to your child’s unique needs.

Do you offer virtual therapy for children?

Yes. Virtual therapy is available across Ontario. We will work with you to determine if online counselling is suitable for your child based on their age and needs.
