Addiction Counselling

Supporting you on your journey of recovery.

Addiction Counselling

Struggling with substance use or addictive behaviours can feel isolating, confusing, and overwhelming. Many people carry shame or worry about how their struggles may affect their relationships, work, or daily life. At Reclaim and Rise Counselling, we provide a supportive and respectful space where individuals and families can talk openly about addiction and begin working toward meaningful change.

Addiction can affect anyone. It does not mean someone lacks strength or willpower. In many cases, substance use or addictive behaviours develop as a way to cope with stress, trauma, emotional pain, or life circumstances that feel difficult to manage.

Counselling can help people better understand these patterns and develop healthier ways of coping while rebuilding confidence, stability, and connection.

Substance Use Concerns

Substance use concerns may involve alcohol, cannabis, prescription medications, or other drugs. Some people notice their use gradually increasing over time, while others feel they have lost control over their ability to stop or reduce their use.

Substance use can begin to impact many areas of life, including relationships, work performance, finances, and physical health. It can also create cycles of guilt, secrecy, or shame that make it harder to ask for help.

Counselling provides a space to explore what is happening beneath the surface and to develop practical strategies for moving forward.

Behavioural Addictions

Addictive patterns are not limited to substances. Many people struggle with behavioural addictions that can feel just as difficult to manage.

These may include gambling, pornography use, gaming, social media, shopping, or other compulsive behaviours. Over time these patterns can begin to interfere with relationships, responsibilities, and overall wellbeing.

Therapy can help people understand the emotional triggers and patterns behind these behaviours while building healthier ways of responding to stress and urges.

The Impact of Addiction on Relationships

Addiction rarely affects just one person. It often impacts partners, parents, children, and close friends as well.

Families may experience confusion, conflict, worry, or emotional exhaustion while trying to support someone they care about. Partners may struggle with trust, communication, and feeling disconnected from the person they once knew.

Counselling can support both individuals and families as they work to rebuild communication, set healthy boundaries, and strengthen relationships during recovery.

Supporting a Loved One With Addiction

Watching someone you care about struggle with addiction can be incredibly difficult. Many people feel unsure how to help without making the situation worse.

You may find yourself asking questions like:

  • How do I support them without enabling the behaviour?

  • How do I protect my own wellbeing?

  • What boundaries are healthy to set?

  • What can I do if they are not ready for help?

Therapy can help you navigate these questions while providing guidance, education, and emotional support.

How Addiction Counselling Can Help

Addiction counselling focuses on understanding the underlying factors that contribute to substance use or addictive behaviours. Rather than focusing on blame, therapy helps people explore their experiences with curiosity and compassion.

Counselling may help individuals and families

  • Understand the emotional roots of addiction

  • Develop healthier coping strategies

  • Strengthen self awareness and emotional regulation

  • Repair trust and communication in relationships

  • Reduce shame and isolation

  • Create a realistic and supportive plan for recovery

Every person’s path is different. Therapy can be tailored to meet people where they are, whether they are exploring their relationship with substances, actively working toward recovery, or supporting a loved one.
